Was sind überhaupt geschichtswissenschaftliche Blogs? Gibt es geschlechtsspezifische Nutzungsformen? Wie schreibt man für ein Blog und wieviel Technikwissen braucht es dafür? Welche Möglichkeiten der Vernetzung gibt es und wozu braucht es diese? Haben Blogs einen wissenschaftlichen Nutzen und welche "Grenzen im Kopf" innerhalb der wissenschaftlichen Community gilt es aufzubrechen? Können Blogs die transnationale bzw. interdisziplinäre Betrachtung historischer Prozesse fördern und aktuelle Fragen in den öffentlichen Diskurs tragen? Kurz: Wo ist sie, die Geschichte-Blogosphäre und wo ist die Community? Als ein Novum in der deutschsprachigen Wissenschaftslandschaft entsteht dieses Buch in einem offenen Arbeitsprozess, indem es Tools und Prozesse des Netzes einsetzt und eine kooperative Arbeitsweise in den Entstehungsprozess einbezieht. Software has replaced a diverse array of physical, mechanical, and electronic technologies used before 21st century to create, store, distribute and interact with cultural artifacts. It has become our interface to the world, to others, to our memory and our imagination - a universal language through which the world speaks, and a universal engine on which the world runs. What electricity and combustion engine were to the early 20th century, software is to the early 21st century. Offering the the first theoretical and historical account of software for media authoring and its effects on the practice and the very concept of 'media,' the author of The Language of New Media (2001) develops his own theory for this rapidly-growing, always-changing field. What was the thinking and motivations of people who in the 1960 and 1970s created concepts and practical techniques that underlie contemporary media software such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Maya, Final Cut and After Effects? Abstract

Electronic Iran introduces the concept of the Iranian Internet, a framework that captures interlinked, transnational networks of virtual and offline spaces. Taking her cues from early Internet ethnographies that stress the importance of treating the Internet as both a site and product of cultural production, accounts in media studies that highlight the continuities between old and new media, and a range of works that have made critical interventions in the field of Iranian studies, Niki Akhavan traces key developments and confronts conventional wisdom about digital media in general, and contemporary Iranian culture and politics in particular. Akhavan focuses largely on the years between 1998 and 2012 to reveal a diverse and combative virtual landscape where both geographically and ideologically dispersed individuals and groups deployed Internet technologies to variously construct, defend, and challenge narratives of Iranian national identity, society, and politics. While it tempers celebratory claims that have dominated assessments of the Iranian Internet, Electronic Iran is ultimately optimistic in its outlook. As it exposes and assesses overlooked aspects of the Iranian Internet, the book sketches a more complete map of its dynamic landscape, and suggests that the transformative powers of digital media can only be developed and understood if attention is paid to both the specificities of new technologies as well as the local and transnational contexts in which they appear.

Sociale media zijn alomtegenwoordig. Zowel in onze persoonlijke levenssfeer als op het werk, in familiale context of in onze hoedanigheid van consument zijn ze niet meer weg te denken. Door de democratische toegang tot sociale media, waarvoor men enkel een e-mailadres en een beperkte computerkennis nodig heeft, zijn sociale media uitgegroeid tot de grootste hype van het begin van deze eeuw. Hoewel de sociale media vele voordelen bieden, bleven inbreuken en misbruiken niet uit. De snelheid en dominantie waarmee sociale media hoe langer hoe meer ons internetgebruik sturen, roepen een brede waaier van juridische vragen op.Ouders stellen zich vragen over het socialemediagebruik van hun kinderen, consumenten over hun vrijheid en privacy, overheden over de gevaren van het circuleren van zoveel persoonsgegevens. Bedrijven onderzoeken de invloed van sociale media op hun klantenrelaties, op hun naam en reputatie. Ondernemers worstelen evenzeer met de bescherming van hun intellectuele eigendomen en zijn bovendien genoodzaakt positie in te nemen ten opzichte van het gebruik van sociale media door en voor hun werknemers. Regulatoren van hun kant zien nieuwe platformen ontstaan voor (kans)spelen, marketeers en headhunters daarentegen specialiseren zich in het gebruik ervan om zo direct mogelijk gebruikers te kunnen aanspreken.Dit boek laat onderzoekers en praktijkjuristen aan het woord, die vanuit het bestaande wettelijke kader en actuele rechtspraak dieper op deze vragen ingaan.
